Book Club
Please join us at the April 15 meeting, hosted by Linda S. Her book is Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane. A novel about two neighboring families whose lives become intertwined through a shared tragedy, following two NYPD rookie partners who become neighbors. The story explores the lifelong friendship and love between their children as they navigate the aftermath of a violent event that divides their families and tests their bond over several decades, dealing with themes of mental illness, family loyalty, and forgiveness.
Please contact Linda to confirm you will attend. We’ll meet at 6:30 pm. Find her address within the TNC directory.
Books are a form of transportation, of teaching, and of connection!

Culinary Group
Our Group enjoyed a Tea at Troy Historic Village March 19th. The presenter, Paul Vachon, led us through some of the iconic restaurants in Detroit’s heyday. His slides and discussion captured many memories of the Motor City and fine dining experiences. We enjoyed a cup of tea and cookies. Afterward, we met at Cooper’s Hawk in Troy for a wonderful Happy Hour. It was a chance to catch up, share ideas and get to know each other a bit better. The specialty cocktails were good and our food was delicious!
We have another adventure planned for Tuesday, April 28th at Troy Public Library. Cooking with Mary. She will provide us 2 seasonal Polish dishes. Recipes and tips will be provided. This class is offered from 7-8pm. There are still a few seats left. If you are interested, call the library, and make a reservation. There is no cost. TPL 248-524-3538. We are always looking for people that would like to share their knowledge in any type of cooking or specialty. We really want to continue this group, and value your participation! Please contact us with any ideas.
If interested, contact Monica D. at culinary@troynewcomers.com so you don’t miss any information.

Ladies Morning Euchre
We are playing this month on Tuesday, April 7 at 9:30 am at the home of Debbie R. Debbie lives in Troy, see directory for address. Please RSVP to her by Saturday, April 4. If you are not a regular hostess, and would like to bring a breakfast item for that morning, let Debbie know. We are beginner friendly, so let the hostess know if you wish to be instructed that day, and she will not put you in the count. Thank you.
Please contact Gina K. or e-mail ladieseuchre@troynewcomers.com for further information or if you are interested in hosting this activity.
Ladies Game Night (Girls’ Night Out)
Maryann L. will host Ladies’ Game Night on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:00. Please contact Maryann if you are able to attend.
If you would like more information about Game Night, please contact Jill M. or e-mail gamenight@troynewcomers.com.
Ladies Pickleball
Our 4th session this year will start on April 1 and run through May 27. We are trying something new this session with players playing one month or both. We hope to accommodate those who are starting golf or just returning from places south or for some other reason are not able to play both months. If this works, we will most likely try this in the winter months to see how it will go with the snowbirds!
Mah Jongg
April showers may bring May flowers but the more important thing that April brings is the new mah jongg card! Which presents a wonderful opportunity for all of you who have wanted to learn but have been intimidated by the prospect of playing against experienced players. We’re all in the same boat this month – nobody knows what hand to pick! In fact, new players may have an advantage as you won’t constantly be trying to play a hand from the old card. We will play on April 10th at 9:30 am and April 24th at 1 pm at the home of Jane E. New players are always welcome – we love to introduce new people to the game.
Please let Jane know if you plan to attend or need directions to her house.
Please e-mail Jane at mahjongg@troynewcomers.com for more information about mah jongg.
Meadow Brook Ushering
Our next performance is Come From Away – Following a true story during the 9/11 attacks, 38 planes and 6,579 passengers were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of one small town on the edge of the world. Based on interviews with locals, Come From Away is about how hosting this international community of strangers spurred unexpected camaraderie in extraordinary circumstances. Our dates to usher run from Wednesday, April 1 to Sunday, April 5, 2026. Please arrive at the theatre 45 minutes prior to showtime and remain in the lobby for instructions. Remember, if you are unable to make your commitment, it is up to you to find a replacement from the Usher & Sub List. We hope everyone enjoys this performance based on a real-life adventure.

Widows Group
Our 3rd Widows Group meeting was held on Tuesday, 3.24.26 at Kathie M.’s home. It was a smaller group but quite lovely to really get to know each other on a more personal level. Our focus for this gathering stemmed from sharing positive triumphs since our last meeting, including how we managed the holidays. The group decided to keep our quarterly meeting format but to also start using our contact list to reach out to members to engage in activities in between our quarterly meetings to expand our horizons.
Our next meeting will be another potluck at the home of JoAnn B. on 6.16.26 starting at 6:30 pm. All those who have lost a partner are welcome. If you would like to participate in this group, please send your name, email address and cell phone number to Karen G. You will be added to our text string and sent additional information for our June 18th gathering. If you have any questions about this group, feel free to call or text her at any time.
For additional information, please contact Karen G. or e-mail widowsgroup@troynewcomers.com.
Wine Tasting
The first, long awaited wine tasting of 2026 has arrived. The April wine tasting will be held on Saturday, April 18, at 6:30pm. Jan F. will host the wine tasting at her home. Please RSVP to Jan by Wednesday, April 15. Each wine tasting evening is hosted by a Troy Newcomer member. The members attending may bring a spouse or friend along with an appetizer, their wine glasses and $10 per wine drinker which will contribute to the cost of the wine. Those who do not drink wine are welcome to attend. They will bring an appetizer but are not asked to pay the $10. When you RSVP, let the hostess know if you will not be drinking wine. The hostess chooses the wines she would like to serve. The hostess supplies the coffee and desserts. This activity is held once a month on a Friday or Saturday evening of the hostess’s choice beginning at 6:30pm.
