Book Club

Please join us at the June 18 meeting, hosted by Barb S. Her book is The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. A gripping historical mystery inspired by the life and diary of Martha Ballard, a renowned 18th-century midwife who defied the legal system and wrote herself into American history. Please contact Barb to confirm you will attend. We’ll meet at 6:30 pm at Raintree Park.

Our July 16 meeting will be hosted by Pat W. Her book is Under a Gilded Moon by Joy Jordan-Lake. An enthralling novel of secrets, a tumultuous war of ideas, and murder as classes collide in the shadow of Biltmore House. Check out early via MeL for availability. A reminder will be sent out to the Book Club members in June. Contact Pat if you would like to attend. We’ll meet at her lake house in Fenton.

The best thing in your wallet is a library card.

For more information send an email to bookclub@troynewcomers.com.

Evening/Couples Euchre

Thank You Marissa and Doug for hosting our last euchre party for this season! Thank you to all the members who hosted our euchre parties this year, because we could not play cards without you! Happy Summer! See you in September!

We ask that you bring any alcohol you would like to drink and a dish to share with the group. We will start at 6:45pm and take time to socialize and eat our food. Then it is time to play euchre. We always play on a Saturday night and in the comfort of someone’s home. We ask that you email the hostess and let her know if you are coming and if you will bring an appetizer or a dessert. Oh, one more thing- it will cost you $5.00 to play, and we do play for prizes.

We’re an intermediate group and welcome new people. If you’ve played Euchre before, consider joining us for a fun evening! Contact Darlene G. at clubactivities@troynewcomers.com for more information about this activity.

  Ladies Bowling

The new season will be starting in September. We will be bowling on Thursdays at 9:15 am at the Escape Bowling Alley on Square Lake Rd. If you would like to join as a regular bowler or a substitute, email Darcel C.

For more information send an e-mail to ladiesbowling@troynewcomers.com

Please contact Gina K. or e-mail ladieseuchre@troynewcomers.com for further information or if you are interested in hosting this activity.

Ladies Game Night (Girls’ Night Out)

There are no dates planned for the summer. We are looking for hostesses to start back in the fall. If you would like to host in September or any other month, please let Jill M. know. Have a safe and fun summer.

If you would like more information about Game Night, please contact Jill M. or e-mail gamenight@troynewcomers.com.

Ladies Pickleball

The Newcomer Picklers are having a great time so we will continue with a 3rd Session of Pickleball thru June 11. We will be taking a break over the summer. Please watch the newsletter for information on new playing times for fall. If you have any questions, please contact Michele B.

If you have any questions, please contact Michele B at service@troynewcomers.com.

Mah Jongg

Unlike many other Newcomer activities, mah jongg does not take the summer off. We will be playing in June and July on our regular second and fourth Fridays. That translates into June 13 at 9:30 am, June 27 at 1 pm, July 11 at 9:30 am and July 25 at 1pm. We will play at the home of Jane E. New players are always welcome. If your schedule is freed up over the summer days, come and join us. Don’t worry if you can’t remember all those dates, just make sure you are on Jane’s email list for reminders and updates.

Please let Jane know if you plan to attend or need directions to her house.

Please e-mail Jane at mahjongg@troynewcomers.com for more information about mah jongg.

Meadow Brook Ushering

It is hard to believe that we have reached the final play of the 2024-2025 Meadow Brook Theatre Season. Hope you’ve enjoyed this line up of plays! Our final performance will be SHEAR MADNESS, Rochester’s Hilarious Whodunit. This play has returned to the Theatre based on popular demand requests. We will be ushering from June 11th through June 15th . Remember to locate a substitute is you are unable to honor your commitment.

Information on the new season and sign-up opportunities will be sent out in August, so watch the newsletter carefully. One of the joyful parts of leading this group is that so many Newcomers happily return year after year to support the theatre and have fun! This is truly a great social benefit for our members. Marie H. will be stepping down in the leadership role. We are happy to introduce your new leads: Michele B. and Joann T.  Look for them at the Club’s Start Up Kickoff event. Please sign up early for your desired commitment to make sure you get your desired time and date slot. Thank you Marie for leading this wonderful group of ushers and the Meadow Brook Theatre.

If you would like information regarding ushering at Meadow Brook in the future or have questions, please call Michele B. or email meadowbrook@troynewcomers.com.

Scrapbooking

We will be meeting at the home of Darcel C. for a daytime scrap on Wednesday June 18th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Plan on bringing a sack lunch. Darcel will provide drinks and snacks. If you would like to attend, please let Darcel know by emailing her.

If you are interested in participating or have questions, please call Darcel C. or e-mail clubactivities@troynewcomers.com

Wine Tasting

If you are interested in trying some new wines, enjoying good conversation and selection of appetizers and pot luck type dishes, consider joining us. The June wine tasting will be held on June 14th at 6:30 pm at the home of Carol P. Please RSVP to Carol by Wednesday, June 11, if you plan to attend. This is the last wine tasting until the Fall.

Each wine tasting evening is hosted by a Troy Newcomer member. The members attending may bring a spouse or friend, along with an appetizer, their wine glasses and $10 per wine drinker which will contribute to the cost of the wine. Those who do not drink wine are welcome to attend contributing an appetizer but are not asked to pay the $10. The hostess chooses the wines she would like to serve. The hostess supplies the coffee and desserts. The wine tasting is held once a month on a Friday or Saturday evening of the hostess’s choice beginning at 6:30 pm. If you would like to attend a wine tasting evening and do not drink wine, feel free to bring your own beverage.

For additional information, please contact Ann B. or e-mail winetasting@troynewcomers.com.

If you would like more information or have ideas on additional activities for the Club, please send an email to clubactivities@troynewcomers.com.
