Book Club
Please join us at the October 15 meeting, hosted by Darcel C. Her book is The Wedding People by Allison Espach. The Wedding People is a look at the winding paths we can take to places we never imagined―and the chance encounters it sometimes takes to reroute us.
Please contact Darcel to confirm you will attend. We’ll meet at 6:30 pm. Find her address within the TNC directory.
When someone opens a book, magic happens.
For more information send an email to bookclub@troynewcomers.com.

Ladies Morning Euchre
We are playing this month on Tuesday, October 21 at 9:15 am at the home of Maryann L. She lives in Troy, see directory for address. Please RSVP to Maryann by Saturday, October 18. If you are not a regular hostess, you can ask Maryann if she needs any breakfast items for that day. We are beginner friendly and can teach you how to play, just let the hostess know so you are not counted as a player yet.
We need hostesses for November, January, February, April and May. Please contact Gina K. if you host for any of those months.
Come join us for coffee, light breakfast , socializing and playing some euchre!!
Please contact Gina K. or e-mail ladieseuchre@troynewcomers.com for further information or if you are interested in hosting this activity.
Ladies Game Night (Girls’ Night Out)
Game night is a fun night of different beginner-friendly games the hostess chooses. Each month that we have a hostess, she picks a date and time and plans the games. We play anything from cards, board games, dominoes, charades or anything else she finds. Light refreshments are served and fun and laughs are had by all. If you attend regularly but do not host, it is asked that you offer to bring something to help out the hostess. Mary Ann K. will host on Thursday October 16 at 7:00. Please call or text her at if you can attend. Looking ahead, Darcel C. will host on November 11th.
If you would like more information about Game Night, please contact Jill M. or e-mail gamenight@troynewcomers.com.
Ladies Pickleball
Pickleball starts this month. Everyone has fun and gets plenty of exercise and laughs and hopefully not pickled! (That means shut-out in pickleball language.) This session is full but we may do something different next session. To do so, we need to know how many additional ladies would like play or learn how to play. If you are interested and didn’t sign up this session, please email Michele B. by October 31 so we can see if it is feasible to add an additional day. Also let me know whether you are available daytime or evening or both. Not promising anything but, we can’t make a decision if we don’t know your level of interest. Thanks!
Mah Jongg
Mah jongg for October will be on Friday, October 10 at 9:30 am and Friday, October 24 at 1 pm. New and experienced players are welcome on either or both dates. We will play at the home of Jane E. Make sure you’re on Jane’s email list for reminders and updates.
Please let Jane know if you plan to attend or need directions to her house.
Please e-mail Jane at mahjongg@troynewcomers.com for more information about mah jongg.
Meadow Brook Ushering
Our Meadowbrook Ushering Season opens this month, Wednesday Oct. 22 through Sunday, Oct. 26 with Catch Me If You Can (the plot is different from the movie!). A Broadway whodunit overflowing with mirth that is exciting from beginning to end ~ a disappearing wife, a pretty, young girl who claims to be the missing wife and 2 murders! Remember to wear black skirts/pants and white tops/shirts. Ushers should arrive at the theatre 45 minutes prior to show time and remain in the lobby for instructions. Ushers are welcome to sit in the back of the theatre after doors close, but never sit in front of patrons. Remember, if you are unable to make your commitment, it is up to you to find a replacement from the sub list provided. Also, be sure your Newcomer dues are paid or you will be unable to usher.

Wine Tasting
If you are interested in trying some new wines, enjoying good conversation and sampling a selection of appetizers and pot luck type dishes, consider attending a wine tasting evening. Each wine tasting evening is hosted by a Troy Newcomer member. Wine Tasting evenings are held once a month. The members attending may bring a spouse or friend, along with an appetizer, their wine glasses and $10 per wine drinker which will contribute to the cost of the wine. Those who do not drink wine are welcome to attend contributing an appetizer but are not asked to pay the $10. The hostess chooses the wines she would like to serve. The hostess supplies the coffee and desserts. This is held once a month on a Friday or Saturday evening of the hostess’s choice beginning at 6:30pm.
The October wine tasting evening will be on Saturday, October 25. Terry S. will host this event. If you are planning on attending, please contact Terry by October 22. If you will not be drinking wine, please tell Terry when you RSVP.
