Please join us at the August 20 meeting, hosted by Linda P. Her book is The Wicked Sister by Karen Dionne. This is a startling novel of psychological suspense as two generations of sisters try to unravel their tangled relationships between nature and nurture, guilt and betrayal, love and evil.

Please contact Linda to confirm you will attend. We’ll meet at 6:30 pm. Find her address within the TNC directory. You’re never alone when reading a book.

Evening/Couples Euchre

Hello Euchre Players! We are getting ready for our group to start, eating, playing cards, and having fun! Our first Saturday night euchre party is planned for September 13 at the home of Amy S.  We hope to see all our euchre friends and meet new people who will become part of our group. Welcome Everyone! Let Amy know you are coming.

We were asked last year to handout some guidelines for members to help them understand what happens at our euchre parties.  Darlene is working on that and they will be sent out before our first event.  If members know when they would like to host a euchre party contact Darlene G. – October through next May open.  Darlene will be attending the kick-off party on September 4 for Troy Newcomers walking around with a blue t-shirt that says, “Worlds Okayest Euchre Player”.

We’re an intermediate group and welcome new people. If you’ve played Euchre before, consider joining us for a fun evening! Contact Darlene G. at eveningeuchre@troynewcomers.com for more information about this activity.

  Ladies Bowling

We are currently putting together the coming season’s teams. The new season will be starting on September 11th and runs 30 weeks. We have Thanksgiving week off and are off the weeks of Christmas thru after the New Year. You do not have to have experience bowling. We are very beginner friendly! We will be bowling on Thursdays at 9:15 am at the Escape Bowling Alley on Square Lake Rd. The cost is $12.00 per week. The Alley will supply shoes and a ball, if you do not have them. If you would like to join as a regular bowler or a substitute, let me know by emailing Darcel C.

For more information send an e-mail to ladiesbowling@troynewcomers.com

Ladies Morning Euchre

If anyone wants to host for September, or any other month next season, contact Gina K.

Please contact Gina K. or e-mail ladieseuchre@troynewcomers.com for further information or if you are interested in hosting this activity.

Ladies Game Night (Girls’ Night Out)

Game Nights are a fun night of games with lots of laughs and some light competition that the hostess chooses. Each month we have a hostess; she will pick the date and time and plan some fun games to play. Light refreshments are served. We play anything from cards, board games, activities, dominoes, charades or some new ones the hostess finds. If you attend regularly but do not host, it is asked that you offer to bring some treats to help the hostess. We are looking for someone to host in September. Please let Jill M. know if you would like to book a date. She will have the sign-up sheet out at Kick Off Night for any other months you may want to sign up for. If you don’t plan to attend but would like to pick a month, please let her know. Hope to see you at Kick Off.

If you would like more information about Game Night, please contact Jill M. or e-mail gamenight@troynewcomers.com.

Ladies Pickleball

Hope everyone has had a chance to play outdoors this summer! We will start the Newcomers Pickleball indoor play at the First United Methodist Church of Troy, 6363 Livernois, in the fall. We play on Wednesdays from 1:00-3:00 in the church’s gym. There are 2 courts and play is open to all members. The cost of the courts is divided among the players and in the past has run about $25 for 6 weeks (we are going to an 8-week format this year.) If you don’t know how to play, we will teach you. The church has paddles available for those who would like to use them. If you have any questions, please contact Michele B. Check the coming editions of the Newsletter for the first session dates. Let’s get pickled!! (Or not :)

If you have any questions, please contact Michele B at pickleball@troynewcomers.com.

Mah Jongg

Our August play dates are the 8th at 9:30 am and the 22nd at 1 pm at the home of Jane E. If you’d like to get in some practice in between our play dates, check out Mahjongg4Friends, an online game. Select the North American Mah Jongg League version. It will play the 2025 card, give you suggestions and walk you through the steps of the Charleston. This is free to play. You can play against the computer or arrange with your friends to join you online. New players are always welcome. We would love to have you join us. Make sure you’re on Jane’s email list for reminders and updates.

Please let Jane know if you plan to attend or need directions to her house.

Please e-mail Jane at mahjongg@troynewcomers.com for more information about mah jongg.

Meadow Brook Ushering

Summer is moving much too quickly and it is time to solidify your theater ushering plans! We will soon be scheduling ushers for the upcoming 2025-2026 Meadow Brook Theater season. A total of 36 ushers is needed to cover our commitment and retain this long-standing activity. In the past, we have ushered the 3rd week of the play. I have not received our assignment, but I would guess it will remain the same. These are static times and so individual play selection is not available. We plan to have a substitute list for dates you cannot usher.

Please email Michele B. if you would like to recommit or newly join or have questions. Please provide your name, email address, phone number and preferred ushering day. We will be at the kick-off night to answer your questions and provide information. Please remember that your Newcomers Dues MUST BE paid by September 30 to participate.  If you like plays but can’t commit to the season, please consider joining the substitute list. It is a great way to see some very entertaining plays!

Meadowbrook Season 2025-2026 – Catch Me if You Can – Oct 8 – Nov 2;  A Christmas Carol – Nov 21 – Dec 24;  All Shook Up – Jan 7 – Feb 1;  What the Constitution Means to Me – Feb 11- Mar 8;  Come From Away – Mar 18 – Apr 12;  Million Dollar Quartet – Apr 22 – May 17;  Always a Bride – May 27 – Jun 21

Scrapbooking

We will be meeting on Monday, August 18th at The Scrapbook Tree 48099 Van Dyke Ave. for their shop and crop from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The cost is $10 or you can purchase a minimum of $10 in products. You are welcome to bring a lunch or snacks. If you would like to attend, please let Darcel C. know.

If you are interested in participating or have questions, please call Darcel C. or e-mail scrapbooking@troynewcomers.com

Wine Tasting

Wine Tasting evenings begin in September and are held once a month. Please contact Ann B. if you will not be attending the Kick Off event and are interested in hosting a wine tasting in your home in 2025 or 2026.

Each wine tasting evening is hosted by a Troy Newcomer member. The members attending may bring a spouse or friend, along with an appetizer, their wine glasses and $10 per wine drinker which will contribute to the cost of the wine. Those who do not drink wine are welcome to attend contributing an appetizer but are not asked to pay the $10. The hostess chooses the wines she would like to serve. The hostess supplies the coffee and desserts. The wine tasting is held once a month on a Saturday evening of the hostess’s choice beginning at 6:30 pm. If you would like to attend a wine tasting evening and do not drink wine, feel free to bring your own beverage.

For additional information, please contact Ann B. or e-mail winetasting@troynewcomers.com.
