Book Club
Please join us at the March 18 meeting, hosted by Marie W. Her book is The Sweetness of Water by Nathan Harris. This book is set in the fictional town of Old Ox, Georgia, during the final period of the Civil War. The story follows two Black brothers, Prentiss and Landry, freed by the Emancipation Proclamation, as they try to make money for their trek north to reunite with their mother. Read about the complexities of life in the aftermath of a nation torn apart. Please contact Marie to confirm you will attend. We’ll meet at 6:30 pm. Find her address within the TNC directory.
Not a Book Club member? Contact Janet G. to join! We love having new views and perspectives for our book discussions.
The whole point of a Book Club is to read things you wouldn’t normally.

This event takes place at the Troy Historic Village at 2pm. Tickets are $10 for THS members and $15 for non-members, however if we have a group of at least 10, we can get the discounted member price. Afterward, continue the fun at Cooper’s Hawk on Big Beaver in Troy for happy hour. Discounted prices will be in effect. Contact Monica D. prior to March 9th if you plan to attend.
If interested, contact Monica D. at culinary@troynewcomers.com so you don’t miss any information.
Evening Euchre
Next Euchre – Saturday, March 21 at 6:45pm at the home of Darcel C. Let Darcel know you are coming. Thank you, Joann T. for hosting our February party. It was such a good time with decorations, lots of food, and a warm welcome for everyone. Future Euchre dates: April 18 – Gina K. May 16 – Marissa H.
New rule starting for 2026. Whether you get stuck with the deal or you take the bid, if you get euchred, you and your partner pay 25 cents. The coins that are collected are a fun way for more people to take a prize home. We are looking for volunteers to host a euchre party next season. Thank you, Maryann D. for being the first and offering to host in December 2026.
We’re an intermediate group and welcome new people. If you’ve played Euchre before, consider joining us for a fun evening! Contact Darlene G. at eveningeuchre@troynewcomers.com for more information about this activity.

Ladies Pickleball
Our third session of pickleball this year continues through the end of March. If anyone is interested in playing the next session (April & May), please let Michele B. know by March 15. If you can only play one month, we are considering allowing a person to play a half session (some people start golf in May) so let her know that too so she can see the level of interest. We play on Wednesday afternoons at Troy First United Methodist Church on Livernois from 1:00 – 3:00 and the cost to rent the gym is divided among the players. We are very beginner friendly. So come join us and see what the fastest growing sport in the USA is all about!
Mah Jongg
Rinse and repeat. Since February has only 28 days (thank you Augustus Caesar!) we will again play on Friday the 13th. Just in March, this time. Come join us at 9:30 am at the home of Jane E. If you don’t know how to play, we will be glad to provide lessons. We will also play at 1 pm on Friday the 27th. This will be your last opportunity to check out the 2025 card. The only thing we anticipate more than the arrival of Spring is the arrival of the new 2026 card in time for April play.
Please let Jane know if you plan to attend or need directions to her house.
Please e-mail Jane at mahjongg@troynewcomers.com for more information about mah jongg.
Meadow Brook Ushering
There isn’t a performance in March, but since this next one is right at the beginning of April, we thought we would include in the March Newsletter. Our next performance is Come From Away – Following a true story during the 9/11 attacks, 38 planes and 6,579 passengers were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of one small town on the edge of the world. Based on interviews with locals, Come From Away is about how hosting this international community of strangers spurred unexpected camaraderie in extraordinary circumstances. Our dates to usher run from Wednesday, April 1 to Sunday, April 5, 2026. Please arrive at the theatre 45 minutes prior to showtime and remain in the lobby for instructions. Remember, if you are unable to make your commitment, it is up to you to find a replacement from the Usher & Sub List. We hope everyone enjoys this performance based on a real-life adventure.
To learn more about an individual play, check the Meadowbrook Theater website – https://www.mbtheatre.com/20252026-season
If you would like information regarding ushering at Meadow Brook or have questions, please contact Michele B. or email meadowbrook@troynewcomers.com.
Scrapbooking
We will be scrapbooking at the home of Darcel C. on Monday, March 30th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is an open door, so you can come anytime during these hours and stay as long as you want. You may bring any craft item you are working on if you do not scrapbook. You are welcome to bring a sack lunch; Darcel will provide snacks and drinks.
Please let Darcel know if will be joining her.

Widows Group
Our next meeting will be another potluck at the home of Kathie M. on 3.24.26 starting at 6:30 pm. All those who have lost a partner are welcome. If you would like to participate in this group, please send your name, email address and cell phone number to Karen G. You will be added to our text string and sent additional information for our March 24th gathering. If you have any questions about this group, feel free to call or text Karen at any time.
For additional information, please contact Karen G. or e-mail widowsgroup@troynewcomers.com.
Wine Tasting
There is no wine tasting scheduled for March. There is a hostess for April.
If you are interested in trying some new wines, enjoying good conversation and sampling a selection of appetizers and pot luck type dishes, consider attending a wine tasting evening. Each wine tasting evening is hosted by a Troy Newcomer member. Wine Tasting evenings are held once a month. The members attending may bring a spouse or friend, along with an appetizer, their wine glasses and $10 per wine drinker which will contribute to the cost of the wine. Those who do not drink wine are welcome to attend contributing an appetizer but are not asked to pay the $10. Everyone brings their own wine glass. The hostess chooses the wines she would like to serve. The hostess supplies the coffee and desserts. This is held once a month on a Friday or Saturday evening of the hostess’s choice beginning at 6:30pm.
For additional information, please contact Ann B. or e-mail winetasting@troynewcomers.com.
