Book Club

Please join us at the April 17 meeting, hosted by Megan C. Her book is Anxious People by Fredrik Backmanhite. An open house becomes a fearful situation when an escaped bank robber takes everyone inside hostage. As pressure mounts, eight strangers open up to each other and share their darkest secrets. Please contact Megan to confirm you will attend. We’ll meet at 6:30 pm. Find her address within the TNC directory.

The enduring power of friendship, forgiveness, and hope can save us—even in the most anxious of times.

Evening/Couples Euchre

Thank you to Darcel C. for hosting in March. Everyone had such a good time. Our April euchre will be held on Saturday, April 27 starting at 6:45pm at the home of Gina K. Please let Gina know you are coming.

So, you can plan ahead, the May euchre will be May 18th at the home of Marissa H. This will be our last euchre for the season.

We are planning the next season of euchre from September 2024 to May 2025. If you know which month you would like to host in your home, please contact Darlene G.

We start at 6:45 pm, cost is $5 per person, and everyone brings an appetizer or dessert to share. All money is awarded that night for high scores, and low scores get a chance at euchre quarters. Hope to see you there.

We’re an intermediate group and welcome new people. If you’ve played Euchre before, consider joining us for a fun evening! Contact Darlene G. at euchre_couples@troynewcomers.com for more information about this activity.

Mah Jongg

As every mah jongg player knows, the new year really doesn’t arrive until April when the new card comes out! So, what does that mean if you’re not a mah jongg player?? This is your golden opportunity!! Everyone will be learning the new hands so experience is not a factor. (In fact, it may be a detriment since many of us will be nostalgic for our favorites from the past year.) This is the perfect time to learn to play!

Our two play dates in April will be Friday the 12th at 9:30 am and Friday the 26th at 1 pm at the home of Jane E. Many thanks to Terry S. for hosting on March 22nd. Please let Jane know if you plan to attend or need directions to her house.

If you’re not available to attend but would like further notices, let Jane know and she will add you to the email list.

Please e-mail Jane at mahjongg@troynewcomers.com for more information about mah jongg.

Meadow Brook Ushering

Hello team and Happy Easter. This is a dual reminder due to the way the schedule falls. So, April 3 to 6 we are ushering for Native Gardens. There’s good reviews on this one, not as heavy as the last play. The write up was in the March newsletter. ROUTE 66 follows the week of May 6th through 12th. This show is selling out quickly and additional matinees may be added. This will not affect our schedule however. The play will contain the sounds of 1950 Chicago, Mainstreet USA, and the surf music of the 1960s. This musical revue will contain 34 of the best “Rock-n-Roll” hits of the 20th century. Get your kicks on Route 66!

If you would like information regarding ushering at Meadow Brook in the future or have questions, please call Marie H. or email meadowbrook@troynewcomers.com.

Scrapbooking

Come join us as we share and scrap our memories on April 12th from 11:15 to 4pm. We will meet at the Scrapbook Tree located at 48099 Van Dyke Ave. Shelby Township. The cost is $10 or you can spend $10 in product and crop for free. Please let Debbie R. know if you can attend.

If you are interested in participating or have questions, please call Debbie R. or e-mail scrapbooking@troynewcomers.com

Wine Tasting

If you are interested in trying some new wines, enjoying good conversation and sampling a selection of appetizers and pot luck type dishes, consider attending a wine tasting evening. The April wine tasting will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 6:30pm. It will be hosted at the home of Jan F. Please RSVP Jan by Wednesday, April 24, if you plan to attend.

Each wine tasting evening is hosted by a Troy Newcomer member. The members attending may bring a spouse or friend along with an appetizer, their wine glasses and $10 per wine drinker which will contribute to the cost of the wine. Those who do not drink wine are welcome to attend, contributing an appetizer but are not asked to pay the $10. The hostess chooses the wines she would like to serve and supplies the coffee and desserts. This is held once a  month on a Friday or Saturday evening of the hostess’s choice beginning at 6:30pm.

For additional information, please contact Ann B. or e-mail winetasting@troynewcomers.com
