November 7, Thursday (All Day Long)

Fundraiser at MOD PIZZA

ROCHESTER AND AUBURN ROAD – Rochester Hills, MI 48307

Bring everyone you know for lunch or dinner to MOD PIZZA! Troy Newcomers is supported by the fundraising activities we put together, so we need everyone to participate and have lunch or dinner at MOD Pizza. MOD pizza is donating 20% of everything we order the day of November 7 to Troy Newcomers. Make sure you tell MOD Pizza you are there for the Troy Newcomers Group Fundraiser, and we will receive money for our organization. So, come have some pizza and support your group! Darlene G. will be there from 12:00pm to 2:00pm and 5:00 pm to 7:00pm if you would like to join her. Please let her know, and she’ll save you a seat.

A few things happening in 2019 –

For the month of October, we will be collecting diapers and fragrance-free wipes for the Abigayle Ministries, a Christian non-profit organization located in Macomb county. The ministry assists adult pregnant women and their children to become self-sufficient in a residential housing program. There is always a need for diapers (especially size 6) and wipes. You can bring your donation to any of the October club activities, including bowling every Tuesday, and to the luncheon at Carrabba’s on October 24th.

Although we will continue to partner with Troy Union Elementary supporting their Giving Tree program for Thanksgiving and Christmas, we will also help our furry friends and partner with the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) supporting their Pet Pantry Program. The MHS Pet Pantry assists hundreds of qualifying low-income families in the Metro Detroit area. This program provides dog or cat food at no charge to owned pets in an effort to keep animals in their current homes. The MHS Pet Pantry drive will be throughout the month of November. In the meantime, if everyone could start stocking up on small bags (only) of dog and cat food as well as wet puppy and kitten food it will ensure the food drive to be a great success. Also, the MHS is always in need of newspapers, old towels, blankets and pet toys for the resident animals. Details to follow in our November newsletter.

The Giving Tree program helps to support low income families throughout the year and especially during the Holidays. TNC had a very successful drive last year and helped four families totaling 13 children in the Troy area. Troy Union Elementary has recently sent out their Giving Tree forms to gather families in need for Thanksgiving and Christmas. As last year, TNC will be providing Kroger gift cards for the Thanksgiving Giving Tree program. Our Service Chair, Kim U., should have donation information available by mid-November if not sooner. Look for more information in our November newsletter.

Senior Baking

Cakes needed!!  One of Troy Newcomers ongoing service projects is providing cakes for the monthly Seniors Birthday Tea at the Troy Community Center.  We need seven cakes every month.  The parties are on the first Thursday each month, and cakes should be delivered to the Troy Community Center, 3179 Livernois, by 10 am, or anytime the day before.  Any flavor cake is appreciated, and they don’t have to be home made.  They ask for one Angel food cake each month.  For more information, please contact Terry S. or Carolyn S. or send an email to

Rose Awards

Each month, September through May, White Rose Awards are given in appreciation to members serving on the board who have made an outstanding contribution to our club. In addition, Red Rose Awards are given in appreciation to members not serving on the board who have also made significant contributions to our club. Troy Newcomers Club is truly grateful for the time these women take out of their busy schedules and the extraordinary effort they put forth on behalf of our club. Please see the newsletter for more information about these wonderful women.
